HISTORY
During his college years, Charalambides envisioned an ideal practice that would holistically address the built environment. This vision emphasized the significance of history and the evolution of architecture and construction, particularly the factors influencing the development of architectural canons and forms. Construction materials were considered paramount, with classical principles forming the foundation of design methodologies and material innovation driving the emergence of new styles and vocabularies.
A dismissive use of the term "formalist" by a faculty member during his studies was actually embraced as a reality and an identity held with pride. That led to a shift in focus toward engineering that facilitated a conscious departure from the ordinary, embracing the avant-garde as a guiding principle for the practice. This approach encouraged unconventional form and material use, aiming to serve client needs while elevating each composition to a landmark status.
Our company was originally established as an Architectural and Engineering design practice in Nicosia Cyprus in early 2000. It has become a Professional Limited Liability Company (PLLC) in the US in 2013 with a goal to pursue experimental processes in the use of materials for construction, apply benchmarking and CQI to the practice, produce new knowledge through continuous research, innovation, and leading edge designs.
Since the office in Baltimore was activated, the practice engaged in the application of Sustainability and Community building through the practice of design and refurbishment for housing and at narrow scale institutional buildings.
The affiliation to academia for decades and our engagement in work that is carried on by the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and the Structural Engineering Institute (SEI) motivated us to start this communication path with our affiliates and clients where you can send us a question that we shall try to answer through a video we will post monthly. Please send us your question and we will try to answer it by the end of the month.
